Amanda Tapping answers the fans' questions

Stargate and Sanctuary alumni Amanda Tapping answers the Stargate fans' questions over at Joe Mallozzi's blog, fan Ngan started the ball rolling with, “1. What’s your take on Sam’s and Jack’s relationship? Dating, Engaged, Married?”

AT: Sleeping together…once he’s retired. Crazy, mad, passionate love. Way too much sexual tension for it not to pay off. Then, they’ll take it from there. Dating….Fishing….Dating…..

“2. Do you want to see an acknowledgement of their relationship in the next movie? If so, will there be one?”

AT: I’d like to see some pay off for all their years together. But, I don’t have any say in that.

“3. What are the chances you can get either RDA or Michael Shanks or Chris Judge to guest star in an upcoming Sanctuary episode?”

AT: I would welcome any and all of them. I do think it’s important that Sanctuary be seen as an entirely separate entity in its own right. But having said that I’d would work with any of the boys again in a heartbeat. Continue reading >>

Robert Picardo answers SGA fans questions

Bob Picardo was a cast member on Star Trek Voyager for 169 episodes [IMDb], he first came to the Stargate fold as the really nasty NID Federal Agent Richard Woolsey on the Stargate SG-1 episode Heroes Part 2.

Woolsey was ordered by Senator Kinsey (Ronny Cox) to investigate the death of the much loved SGC doctor, Janet Fraiser played by the stunningly beautiful Canadian actor Teryl Rothery. He was immediately hated by the staff at the SGC and loved worldwide by Stargate fans.

He went on to do seven or more SG-1 eps and an episode on Stargate Atlantis with Richard Dean Anderson and was made a permanant member of the team at Atlantis for the fifth and last season as the boss.

The question answer thing can be found at Joe Mallozzi's Blog >>

Stargate Solutions posts an interview with Joe Mallozzi

Major Stargate franchise news resource Stargate Solutions has posted an excellent interview with Stargate top dog Joe Mallozzi, they got the ball rolling by asking Joe how he heard about the axing of and what was his first reaction, said Mr Mallozzi, "Although we knew that the odds were stacked against us for a sixth season pick-up, we were cautiously optimistic after our premiere. In the ensuing weeks, the ratings held and, given that the first few episodes of season 5 had pulled in better numbers than the back half of season 4, our optimism grew.

"We had, of course, heard word that SGU (
Stargate Universe) was close to a done deal and, with the new series poised to go, we were looking at the possibility of producing another 40 episode season. Taxing but very doable, and we were more than up to the task. But, following a conference call with the studio and the network, Brad (Wright) came in and told us that this would be Atlantis’s final season. We were disappointed, not only for ourselves (we had a great time making the show, especially these last two years) but for the countless others involved in its production as well.

"2. What was the experience like for you and Paul Mullie as you told the cast and crew? We’ve been told they were shocked at the decision.

"I think everyone was surprised. When we received word that we would not be coming back, Paul and I headed down to the trailers to inform the cast members: Joe, Jason, Rachel, and Jewel. David was off that day so we phoned him at home. By the time I got through to Bob, he already knew. Once that was done, John Smith and I headed down to set and broke the news to the crew. Reaction ranged from shocked disappointment to philosophical resignation." Please go to Solutions for the rest of the interview >>

Behind the Scenes at S507 Whispers

MGM has posted a behind the scenes look at the making of the Stargate Atlantis episode S507 Whispers from executive producer Joe Mallozzi's 'point of view'.

Mr Mallozzi, who wrote the script, gets proceedings under way by explaining that he has "always been a big fan of horror movies and we’ve never really done a horror movie on this show the nice thing about Stargate is that it’s so wide open, you can tell so many different types of stories, and I thought, ‘You know what? Why don’t we do a horror story?’” Read more here >>

22 August 2008

Stargate franchise executive producer and showrunner Joe Mallozzi has given some reasons in his blog why the Stargate Atlantis series was cancelled, "By now, I assume you’ve all heard the news. This will be Stargate Atlantis’s fifth and final season. I’m disappointed but not surprised. We came into this year knowing that renewal would be a longshot. With 100 episodes under our belts, rising production costs, and the US dollar’s steep decline, the odds were stacked against us. Still, we’d heard no definite word either way and if SG-1’s surprising 10-year run taught us one thing, it’s that anything is possible. The circumstances that contributed to SG-1’s longevity were very different but, back then, we hadn’t expected it to get a sixth season pick-up either. The rest can be read at Joe's blog

SciFi Channel Cancels Stargate Atlantis

US pay TV network SciFi Channel has cancelled Stargate Atlantis after five seasons, preferring instead to go to direct to DVD movie.

The overwhelming success of the MGM funded direct to DVD flicks Stargate Ark of Truth and Stargate Continuum in all likelihood prompted the network follow this path.

Executive producers Brad Wright and Rob Cooper said in a joint statement, "The successes of the two original Stargate movies, The Ark of Truth and Continuum, have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise."

Showrunners and prolific episode writers Joe Mallozzi and Paul Mullie will script the flick. Cast and storyline is yet to be revealed

Stargate Atlantis reaches 100th episodes milestone

Treated like a pile of maggot droppings by the Australian TV network channel seven Stargate Atlantis has reached the magic 100 episodes, the script is drafted and over at executive producer Joe Mallozzi's blog, he had this to say, "Speaking of titles - we finally got one for our 100th episode: Enemy at the Gate.

"Looks like it will shoot in the #19 slot, meaning we’ll wrap in Vancouver and finish shooting season five in Las Vegas. It’s 60+ pages of intergalactic fun and Marty G (edit: Martin Gero) is looking to add to the page count by pitching out a certain scene that has divided the writers’ room.

"That’s Martin (Gero) and Carl (Binder) for, Paul (Mullie) and I against, and Alan firmly straddling the fence. Hey, I love the idea. I’m just not crazy about the timing. If the scene boards, we may compromise by shooting it anyway and deciding later whether or not it makes the final cut. To find out more race over to Joe's Blog >>

Stargate Atlantis S5 close to "that's a wrap"

From Stargate Atlantis executive producer and show runner Joe Mallozzi's blog, "In a little over a month from now, we’ll be wrapping our sets for yet another season, preparing for next year, and scattering to the four winds for some much-needed R&R.

Before that happens, of course, we have some episodes that need finishing.

I am anxiously awaiting a director’s cut of Remnants, Marty G. is directing his last day on Brain Storm (at the airport shooting the Learjet sequences), Infection has started shooting (infirmary scenes in Stage 6 to start the day, then a move over to the hive ship set in the FX stage), Carl is casting Identity, and Paul (damn I havent done one of those bio things for Paul (Mullie) yet!) has reached the fourth act of the still untitled Episode #20
