Alex Levine on Stargate Atlantis 'Tracker'

Alex Levine is a writer /producer/director and bloggist on the SciFi Channel's Stargate Atlantis website, his latest blog he discusses the series 5 episode Tracker, here's portion of what he had to say "Tracker was developed from a freelance pitch into a really cool story about Ronon, McKay and Keller. Although the teleplay was written by Carl Binder, the story was developed while the WGA was on strike and Carl was in California. Then, once the strike ended and Carl came back up here to Vancouver, the guys suggested he write the episode using what had been developed by the freelance writer and the other writer/producers. Carl liked the concept and jumped on it. And, like another of his episodes from Season 3, Phantoms, this is an episode in which everything came together. Gotta love it when that happens.

"I spoke with James Bamford, our Stunt Coordinator, and Will Waring, who directed this one, about the episode. Both raved about the abilities of our guest star, Mike Dopud, who plays Kiryk. Not only is this guy a solid actor, but, in Bam Bam’s words “We didn’t double him at all. He did all his own action.” Of course it helps that Mike was a stunt man for years.

"As for the specific stunts, when you’re watching the show keep in mind the following: When Ronon tackles Kiryk off a cliff, there are no stunt guys or visual effects involved. Both actors actually go flying off the cliff and land on some pads out of frame. Also, Will told me that Jason actually wanted to be the stunt guy for the spiked log gag (you can’t miss it). Of course he wasn’t allowed, because if Jason gets injured, we have to stop shooting. But apparently he kept arguing with Will about it and Will had to say no a hundred times. Will also mentioned that they had a lot of laughs shooting the decapitation scene." The rest is here >>

An interview with Stargate Atlantis' Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa plays Ronon Dex on the Canadian made scifi series Stargate Atlantis, he lived in Australia once, even had a girlfriend in Adelaide, but all that's gone now, he lives in Canada and is a big noise on the SciFi series Stargate Atlantis.

Anyhoo, Canadian website Cinema Spy has posted an extensive interview with him, they started by asking the dreadlocked actor, "You say that you didn't think that you’d end up becoming an action star. What kind of actor did you expect to become?

Jason Momoa: I just find myself a little bit more nostalgically tragic. Just more of a - I didn’t want to play an action star because it’s just such a gimme. I’m not that way, I don’t want to be that way. I dreaded my hair because I don’t want to be the pretty boy and the hunk. I didn’t want it to be all about my face; it originally started from that and I hated that. Because I’m just not that. From that spawned the dreads. I just wanted different roles. Now that I have this role, it’s great, because Joe’s the number one. And you don’t find someone like me - big, tall - next to someone that’s the leading man on the show. Normally the sidekick’s going to be someone like David. It’s going to be someone funny. I play right next to Joe and it’s awesome. I’ve worked on shows when guys aren’t that cool with it. Tom Cruise ain’t cool looking up to me. I’m not going to play Tom Cruise’s sidekick, you know what I mean? Brad Pitt’s not going to want me. It’s interesting that Joe - he’s a Harrison Ford type of guy, super confident and with his own style and we work well together. I’d love to work with Flanigan for the rest of my life. He’s great. The rest of the interview is at Cinema Spy >>
