Stargate's Cooper and Wright set for Achievement Leo

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures is proud to congratulate Robert Cooper and Brad Wright on their selection to receive a 2009 LEO Award for Outstanding Achievement. Cooper and Wright are receiving the honor for the global attention and interest in British Columbia film and television attracted by their achievements with the Stargate franchise. SciFi Channel Cancels Stargate Atlantis

US pay TV network SciFi Channel has cancelled Stargate Atlantis after five seasons, preferring instead to go to direct to DVD movie.

The overwhelming success of the MGM funded direct to DVD flicks Stargate Ark of Truth and Stargate Continuum in all likelihood prompted the network follow this path.

Executive producers Brad Wright and Rob Cooper said in a joint statement, "The successes of the two original Stargate movies, The Ark of Truth and Continuum, have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise."

Showrunners and prolific episode writers Joe Mallozzi and Paul Mullie will script the flick. Cast and storyline is yet to be revealed
