UK Pay & Free TV picks up Stargate Universe

As the time nears for Stargate Universe to hit the screen in the US, folks in the UK are not letting the grass grow under their feet with the series, Steve Clarke from Variety reports, "Sky One, the flagship entertainment channel of satcaster BSkyB, has snapped up exclusive free and basic pay U.K. rights to the latest installment of the "Stargate" saga -- "SGU: Stargate Universe."

"SGU," starring British thesp Robert Carlyle as the enigmatic Dr. Nicholas Rush, is said to be edgier and darker than previous incarnations of the sci-fi skein.

The deal with MGM Worldwide Television Distribution also gives Sky One non-exclusive VOD and download-to-own rights for the entire "Stargate" catalog.

"SGU" will bow on Sky One in the fall.

Skein is exec produced and written by Brad Wright and Robert Cooper.
