Smallville Season 8, what’s it about?

Season 8, what’s it about? The US network The CW has released a description of what will in all likelihood be the last season of the scifii drama

"Forging ahead into its eighth season, this modern retelling of the Superman legend and its classic characters continues to blend realism, action and emotional depth to reveal a new interpretation of the enduring mythology. This season Clark Kent (Tom Welling) moves closer than ever to embracing his calling as the iconic superhero he is destined to become.

"Spending less time in his hometown and more time in the big city of Metropolis, Clark will encounter new challenges and a few new faces, both friend and foe, as he begins his career at the Daily Planet. This season will feature visits by characters from every corner of the DC Universe, including Plastique, the heroine-to-be with an explosive personality; Maxima, the seductive, intergalactic goddess; and Superman's most formidable adversary, Doomsday, the only character who is able to kill Superman. This season will also feature an appearance by DC Comics' time-traveling Legion of Superheroes, who come back from the future in an episode to be penned by renowned comic book writer Geoff Johns.

"Last season came to a stunning conclusion with a confrontation between Clark and his longtime nemesis, Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) under the frozen columns of Clark's arctic Fortress of Solitude. Years of secrets came to a head as Clark's former friend finally discovered the truth about Clark's alien heritage. Clark's world soon came crashing down as the fortress crumbled in an icy avalanche, leaving both characters' fate a mystery. Lex's moment of truth didn't come without a price. He murdered his father Lionel (John Glover) for the information about the legendary 'Traveler.' Clark also had to defeat Brainiac (James Marsters), who had banished Clark's Supergirl cousin Kara (Laura Vandervoort) to the Phantom Zone and attacked both Chloe (Allison Mack) and Lana (Kristin Kreuk), leaving them both in catatonic comas. Though Brainiac's demise ultimately lifted their trances, Chloe was soon arrested for hacking into federal databases - just as she was about to respond to Jimmy Olsen's (Aaron Ashmore) marriage proposal.

"Meanwhile, in a tearful, videotaped goodbye, Lana told Clark that she was leaving Smallville and his life forever, encouraging Clark to fulfill his destiny - something he cannot accomplish with her in his world. While one chapter of his life seemingly came to an end, another one was about to begin. With fewer commitments tethering Clark to the farm, Lois Lane (Erica Durance) asked him to apply for a job opening at the Daily Planet.

"The season eight premiere takes place a few weeks after the Fortress' icy collapse, as a LuthorCorp arctic excavation team investigates Lex's whereabouts. Meanwhile, members of the Justice League, including Green Arrow (Justin Hartley), Black Canary (guest star Alaina Huffman) and Aquaman (guest star Alan Ritchson), reunite in the search for Clark, who has been rendered powerless by the fall of the Fortress.

"As episodes unfold, Clark's new position at the Daily Planet will mean working across the desk from Lois. The two will be forced to team up to cover some of Metropolis' most pressing goings on. Sometimes it's Lois herself who becomes Clark's biggest obstacle, especially when he's on a deadline. With Clark and Lois thrust into such close proximity, sparks are bound to fly, and feelings will start to surface that come as a surprise to both of them. At the same time, Clark begins to discover the balancing act he must perform as he explores his dual identities as both reporter and superhero.

"Even with Lex gone, the Luthor mansion isn't vacant for long. Its newest resident is the beguiling Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman), who, according to Lex's written instructions, has been placed in charge of LuthorCorp and all of its projects, including oversight of the Daily Planet. Tess proves to be as inscrutable as she is cunning, and an enigmatic new presence in our characters' lives. It won't be long before Tess' attention turns to Clark. But Clark is wary of her intentions, and as the layers of her past are peeled away, new mysteries surface. Through it all Tess' resolve remains unshakable - to find Lex Luthor, who she is convinced is still alive. Clark isn't the only one who will face formidable challenges. Oliver Queen has come back to make Metropolis his home, where he finds himself at a crossroads, forced to travel through some dark terrain - especially when demons from his past are reawakened. Oliver ultimately begins to question his role as a superhero, just as Clark is embracing his own.

"With a new fiance and puzzling new abilities that intrigue her as much as they frighten her, Chloe decides to turn her attention towards helping others. She takes over where Lana left off and reopens the Isis Foundation to provide counseling for those with meteor-powered abilities. She soon finds just how tricky the meteor-powered can be.

"Chloe's life is further complicated when she meets Metropolis paramedic Davis Bloome (Sam Witwer). A tireless public servant, Bloome strikes up a fast friendship with Chloe. Soulful and mysterious, Bloome has demons of his own. He's troubled by large gaps of time that he can't remember, and as he comes closer to the answers, he must confront his own worst fear - that at his core he is pure evil."

'The Doctor' for the big screen?

Legendary entertainment biz mob Hollywood Reporter is running with a story that new Dr Who show runner Steven Moffat reckons that The Doctor Who TV series would make a good feature length flick. Well duh, fans have been saying that for years.

The stunningly successful scripter goes on to say "It would be good to see it in the cinema so long as it is great and fantastic." But he cautioned that the the movie would need careful handling, "I'm not against it, so long as it never gets in the way of the TV show. If it got in the way of the show that would be appalling." Doctor Who Series Four is currently airing on ABC1 on Sunday evenings at 730pm followed by Dr Who Confidential at 815pm

SGA 505 The Shrine: The director's cut

From MGM: Director's Cut: The Shrine, 25 August 2008 (Episodes)

The Shrine is one of the most emotionally powerful episodes of Stargate Atlantis to date, as viewers witness McKay’s tragic mental demise. Written by Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis co-creator Brad Wright, the episode heralds the former show-runner’s welcome return to scripting the show.

Director Andy Mikita laughingly admits that the prospect of directing Wright’s return to the writing roster was somewhat daunting. Though the pair has worked together for years, there’s just something about directing a script written by one of the show’s creators.

“I have to confess I didn’t go into it quite as relaxed and comfortable as I usually would,” he chuckles. “I felt a little bit of extra pressure. And I don’t know why. It’s silly, because Brad is such a relaxed, collaborative fellow and his scripts are absolutely wonderful. This one, of course, drew an awful lot of attention because it was such a great script and there is so much for all the actors, especially David Hewlett.” Read more >>

Stargate Universe Greenlit

New Stargate Series Targeted For Summer 2009 Premiere

New York, NY - August 22, 2008 - SCI FI Channel and MGM Television Entertainment have reached an agreement to extend MGM's Stargate brand with a new series for the Channel. Production on the first season of Stargate Universe, a weekly series based on the popular Stargate franchise, will begin in early 2009, with the show targeted to premiere that Summer. Brad Wright and Robert Cooper, co-creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis and who both currently serve as executive producers on Atlantis, will serve as executive producers and writers on the new series.

"SCI FI has enjoyed tremendous success with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis and we're proud to be the home of the new Stargate Universe," said Mark Stern, Executive Vice President, Original Programming for SCI FI & Co-Head Original Content, Universal Cable Productions. "Universe will continue the Stargate legacy of vibrant storylines and compelling adventures, but will re-invent the format in a whole new way."

"The Stargate franchise enjoys a loyal and substantial fan base that welcomes each new installment with fevered enthusiasm," said Charles Cohen, Senior Executive Vice President and Corporate Development for MGM. "We are delighted to be working again with Brad and Robert and look forward to seeing new adventures with the launch of Stargate Universe on SCI FI Channel next year. Stargate Universe will continue the longstanding relationship between MGM's stellar science fiction franchise and cable's premiere destination for all passionate science fiction fans."

Thomas Vitale, Senior Vice President Programming & Original Movies said, "Stargate Universe is a natural progression for the Stargate brand and for our network. Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis have been key drivers for SCI FI and we are looking forward to seeing where this next chapter leads, as each new installment of the Stargate franchise further engages the SCI FI audience."

Wright and Cooper said: "In 'Universe,' we plan to keep those elements that have made the franchise a success, such as adventure and humour, while breaking new ground in the relationships between mostly young and desperate explorers, thrust together and far from home. Above all, we believe the Stargate itself remains an enduring icon with infinite potential as a jumping off point for telling stories."

After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.

The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission. Challenges will arise though as the ship comes into range of Stargates placed centuries ahead of the Destiny and the crew is unable to control the ship's navigational schedule. If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them, adding to the drama of encountering new races, enemies and adventures.

Stargate Universe will debut as a two-hour movie event on SCI FI. Following its premiere, Universe will assume a regular hourly slot in Summer 2009. (Winter in Australia)

Universe will be distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution.

22 August 2008

Stargate franchise executive producer and showrunner Joe Mallozzi has given some reasons in his blog why the Stargate Atlantis series was cancelled, "By now, I assume you’ve all heard the news. This will be Stargate Atlantis’s fifth and final season. I’m disappointed but not surprised. We came into this year knowing that renewal would be a longshot. With 100 episodes under our belts, rising production costs, and the US dollar’s steep decline, the odds were stacked against us. Still, we’d heard no definite word either way and if SG-1’s surprising 10-year run taught us one thing, it’s that anything is possible. The circumstances that contributed to SG-1’s longevity were very different but, back then, we hadn’t expected it to get a sixth season pick-up either. The rest can be read at Joe's blog

SCI FI CHANNEL GREENLIGHTS 2-HOUR FILM FROM MGM BASED ON POPULAR 'STARGATE ATLANTIS' SERIES

New York, NY 21 August 2008 – Building upon the successful Stargate franchise, SCI FI Channel today announced it has greenlit a two-hour movie based on the hit science fiction adventure series Stargate Atlantis. SCI FI will have the exclusive worldwide television premiere of the yet to be titled Stargate Atlantis film, which will then be released on DVD by MGM. The movie will be written by Stargate Atlantis' executive producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, who also serve as series showrunners. The movie is set to follow the fifth and final season of Stargate Atlantis, as it draws to its thrilling conclusion in January 2009.

"We're excited to tell Atlantis stories on a bigger canvas. The successes of the two original Stargate DTV movies The Ark of Truth and Continuum have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise, " said Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, co-creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis and who both currently serve as executive producers on Atlantis.

"We share in the producers' enthusiasm to move forward in this direction and we look forward to a strong and continued relationship on Stargate Atlantis in this new format," said Thomas Vitale, Senior Vice President Programming & Original Movies.

Stargate Atlantis follows the adventures of an intrepid team of military and civilian explorers who travel the distant Pegasus galaxy by means of a Stargate, a portal created long ago by a highly advanced alien civilization called the Ancients. In their never-ending quest to seek out other technologies left behind by the Ancients, the Atlantis team encounters alien cultures – some friend, some foe.

The series will reach a milestone with the 100th episode airing in January 2009. Atlantis is executive produced by Brad Wright, Robert C. Cooper, Joseph Mallozzi, Paul Mullie, Carl Binder, and Martin Gero. Mallozzi and Mullie share the reins as showrunners.

SciFi Channel Cancels Stargate Atlantis

US pay TV network SciFi Channel has cancelled Stargate Atlantis after five seasons, preferring instead to go to direct to DVD movie.

The overwhelming success of the MGM funded direct to DVD flicks Stargate Ark of Truth and Stargate Continuum in all likelihood prompted the network follow this path.

Executive producers Brad Wright and Rob Cooper said in a joint statement, "The successes of the two original Stargate movies, The Ark of Truth and Continuum, have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise."

Showrunners and prolific episode writers Joe Mallozzi and Paul Mullie will script the flick. Cast and storyline is yet to be revealed

OK, so here is the obligatory SPOILER warning for those Potter fans who have not read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. DON'T LOOK!

Nineteen years after the battle against Voldemort is won, domesticity has overtaken our heroes, the 'shippers' have at last got their way (no I'm not one of them), the offspring are on their way to Hogwarts: according to the book of course. Now it's time to think about transferring Deathly Hallows to the big screen .

As we all know, er, most of us, Hermione and Ron are married and as the vagaries of the situation catch up with Rupert Grint he has commented in the London tabloid daily The Sun that kissing Emma "will be quite uncomfortable, Emma's like a sister to me so it's going to be, like, really, really weird" ick!

WB boss explains the Harry Potter THBP move

On 15 August we reported that Warners Bros had moved the next instalment of the Harry Potter saga The Half Blood Prince out to 29 July 2009.

Fans around the world must have reacted quickly with a negative response prompting Alan Horn, President, Chief Operating Officer at Warner Bros.to release the following, "Many of you have written to me to express your disappointment in our moving 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' to Summer 2009 (edit: Australia's winter).

"Please be assured that we share your love for Harry Potter and would certainly never do anything to hurt any of the films. Over the past 10 years, we have nurtured and protected each film, and the integrity of the books upon which they are based, to the best of our ability.

"The decision to move 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' was not taken lightly, and was never intended to upset our Harry Potter fans. We know you have built this series into what it is, and we thank you for your ongoing enthusiasm and support.

"If I may offer a silver lining: there would have been a two-year gap between "Half-Blood Prince" and the much-anticipated first part of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," which opens in November 2010.

"So although we have to wait a little longer for "Half-Blood Prince," the wait from that film until "Deathly Hallows" will be less than 18 months. I am sorry to have disappointed you now, but if you hold on a little longer, I believe it will be worth the wait.

Alan Horn
President, Chief Operating Officer
Warner Bros."

The 'Fonz' gets a statue

I know, I know, I know it's not scifi stuff, but back when Australian TV was worth watching, The Happy Days was a shining light.

Anyway, as Phil Gould (NRL commentator) says, "dont get me started", the bloke who played Arthur Fonzerelli, Henry Winker and most of the rest of the cast on the wonderfully entertaining Happy Days were on location in Milwaukee earlier today for the unvieling of a statue to honour the character.

The good Milwaukeeans folks raised $85,000 by the usual means, y'know T Shirts 'thumbs-up' shaped biscuits and hot fudge sundaes (a Fonz favorite) and other goodies.

Happy Days ran for eleven seasons.

Well done folks!

Eureka S3 premiere blitzes US SciFi ratings

The Eureka Season 3 premiere episode ’Bad to the Drone’ which aired on 29 July, brought home 3,363,000 total viewers for the NBC owned US scifi broadcaster SciFi Channel. The episode is now the highest-rated and most-watched episode of any SCI FI original series since the Eureka series premiere on July 18, 2006. "In total viewers, it ranks as the 4th most-watched episode of any SCI FI original series ever” a channel representative said.

Eureka, a series about a small town of geniuses and the havoc their top-secret work often wreaks, takes a shocking turn in this week with the demise of one of the show's leading characters. The arrival of Allison (Salli Richardson) and Nathan's (Ed Quinn) wedding day coincides with an apparent loop in time, and Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) is baffled that he, and only he, is reliving Allison's wedding day over an over again. Carter also gets an unexpected extended visit from his free-spirited sister Lexi (guest star Ever Carradine. By episode's end, one of Eureka's heroes will fall.

Other cast members include Jordan Hinson as Zoe Carter, Erica Cerra as Deputy Jo Lupo, and Neil Grayston as Douglas Fargo.

Co-creator Jaime Paglia and Charlie Craig (The X Files, Brimstone) are Executive Producers and Thania St. John and Bruce Miller are Co-Executive Producers. Eureka is produced by the Universal Cable Productions. Source: NBC

A Shed has been built for the series at The Happy Place Forums but at this time only contains the Season 3 promo images

Eureka airs on the TEN HD Network in Australia with fans waiting desperately for season 2 to begin.

MGM Options 'The World Jonas Moore"

MGM OPTIONS UK ONLINE GRAPHIC NOVEL SENSATION 'THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE' FOR SERIES TELEVISION DEVELOPMENT

LOS ANGELES, CA August 19, 2008 -- Seizing an opportunity to leverage the current wave of popularity and notoriety surrounding the new digital graphic novel sensation, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE, MGM Domestic Television Distribution has acquired an option to develop the Factory Publishing property as a possible television series. The announcement was made today by Chris Ottinger, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Television, MGM.

"THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is an exciting digital graphic novel that's creating quite a sensation abroad," said Ottinger in announcing MGM's option of the property. "We see this as a great concept that will make an exciting series for worldwide audiences.”

"MGM is a great place for THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE," said Howard Webster, creator, producer and director of the project for Factory Publishing in association with Triumph Motorcycles. "There has never been a black British action hero before and what appealed to me was that MGM understood this from the outset. JONAS MOORE is sophisticated, educated, tough and uber-cool. He represents the next generation of intelligent action heroes of international sci-fi drama."

THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE was written, produced and directed by Howard Webster. Ruth Vitale of The Film Collective brought the project to MGM. She was instrumental in developing the television pitch with Webster. She is attached as an Executive Producer to the project, having worked with Webster for the last four years on Factory Magazine.

Nominated at MIPCOM 2007's Mobile and Internet TV Awards in the Best Short Form Mobile and Internet Drama category and an official honoree at this year's Webby Awards, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is a trilogy of second-generation graphic novels, which live online and are specifically designed for iPod and PC download.

THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is set in a time where the British Empire has never ended and America is just one of thousands of virtual worlds hosted on a vast global game network. When Jonas Moore (portrayed online by British film and TV star Colin Salmon -- Resident Evil, Die Another Day, Prime Suspect and the upcoming Punisher: War Zone, and Blood: The Last Vampire), a character personally created by the network's founder, becomes self-aware he is tagged by the network as a virus and goes on the run. As he moves from one artificial game world to the next, his knowledge of the games and the real-world gamers spreads like a virus to the other game characters, freaks, creatures and monsters who live as slaves within the network - precipitating a revolution and fight for freedom against the murderously addicted real-world gamers. Worlds Apart lead singer Steve Hart wrote the score for the production and also stars in the online version.

Combining comic book illustration with 3D animation, live action photography, newsreel archival footage, and an original music score, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE marks a revolution in online branded entertainment and user-generated content. Pushing the boundaries of the graphic novel genre, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE engages fans by inviting them to become part of the journey by downloading the JONAS MOORE digital elements and animating their own stories or creating comic book adventures for JONAS MOORE. Garage bands and musicians all over the world are also invited to strip out the music and send in their own soundtracks. The best fan-generated comic books, animations and soundtracks will be posted at WWW.JONASMOORE.COM when the online digital comic book series goes live later this year.

Previews for THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE digital graphic novel can be seen at www.jonasmoore.com and www.factory-publishing.com.

Stargate Atlantis reaches 100th episodes milestone

Treated like a pile of maggot droppings by the Australian TV network channel seven Stargate Atlantis has reached the magic 100 episodes, the script is drafted and over at executive producer Joe Mallozzi's blog, he had this to say, "Speaking of titles - we finally got one for our 100th episode: Enemy at the Gate.

"Looks like it will shoot in the #19 slot, meaning we’ll wrap in Vancouver and finish shooting season five in Las Vegas. It’s 60+ pages of intergalactic fun and Marty G (edit: Martin Gero) is looking to add to the page count by pitching out a certain scene that has divided the writers’ room.

"That’s Martin (Gero) and Carl (Binder) for, Paul (Mullie) and I against, and Alan firmly straddling the fence. Hey, I love the idea. I’m just not crazy about the timing. If the scene boards, we may compromise by shooting it anyway and deciding later whether or not it makes the final cut. To find out more race over to Joe's Blog >>

Supernatural's Sera Gamble chats to Firefox News

US news resource Firefox News has posted an interesting interview with Supernatural Season 4 producer/writer Sera Gamble in their site, they started by asking Mr Gamble, "The writer's strike cut season 3 short. Meanwhile, time was running down on Dean's deal. Has having a full season ahead and Dean no longer in the process of dying affected the atmosphere working on season 4?

Sera Gamble: Yeah, I suppose we are in a different head space this season. Worrying about when we were going to shut down was no fun. And we came into this season with an embarrassment of riches, because we inherited some of the storyline we didn't get a chance to tell last year. So, we're in a happy place. Warner Bros move release date of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

In a shock move Warner Bros annouced a few hours ago that the release date of the 6th working of Jo Rowlings book Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince into a film will move to 17 July 2009.

Warners senior management said in a statement "We know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent-pole release, as proven by the success of our last Harry Potter film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment.

"Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers' strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films--changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of.

"We agreed the best strategy was to move Half-Blood Prince to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent-pole release for mid-summer.

"The release date change does not alter the production schedule for this or future Harry Potter films.

"Post-production on Half-Blood Prince was completed on time, and the studio's release plans for the two-part Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will not be affected by this change. "We know Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the final chapters unfold onscreen. In fact, the good news for them is that the gap will now be shortened between Half-Blood Prince and the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

Meanwhile at the official Harry Potter website the release dat has been change to 17 July 2009

Synopsis: Once a paradise fueled by the all-powerful sorcery-grade metal known as bloodsteel, the distant land of Mirabilis begins to decay as supplies of the supernatural substance dwindle. The evil warlord Dragon Eye fights to gain control of the world's supply of bloodsteel, which he will use to rule Mirabilis. But, an ancient prophecy propels four ordinary citizens to battle Dragon Eye. Their quest is to find the fabled Crucible – source of all bloodsteel – before the corrupt forces of darkness destroy their world.

An interview with Stargate Atlantis' Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa plays Ronon Dex on the Canadian made scifi series Stargate Atlantis, he lived in Australia once, even had a girlfriend in Adelaide, but all that's gone now, he lives in Canada and is a big noise on the SciFi series Stargate Atlantis.

Anyhoo, Canadian website Cinema Spy has posted an extensive interview with him, they started by asking the dreadlocked actor, "You say that you didn't think that you’d end up becoming an action star. What kind of actor did you expect to become?

Jason Momoa: I just find myself a little bit more nostalgically tragic. Just more of a - I didn’t want to play an action star because it’s just such a gimme. I’m not that way, I don’t want to be that way. I dreaded my hair because I don’t want to be the pretty boy and the hunk. I didn’t want it to be all about my face; it originally started from that and I hated that. Because I’m just not that. From that spawned the dreads. I just wanted different roles. Now that I have this role, it’s great, because Joe’s the number one. And you don’t find someone like me - big, tall - next to someone that’s the leading man on the show. Normally the sidekick’s going to be someone like David. It’s going to be someone funny. I play right next to Joe and it’s awesome. I’ve worked on shows when guys aren’t that cool with it. Tom Cruise ain’t cool looking up to me. I’m not going to play Tom Cruise’s sidekick, you know what I mean? Brad Pitt’s not going to want me. It’s interesting that Joe - he’s a Harrison Ford type of guy, super confident and with his own style and we work well together. I’d love to work with Flanigan for the rest of my life. He’s great. The rest of the interview is at Cinema Spy >>

Smallville S7 Final ep tonight

Tonight at 830pm the final episode of Smallville season seven airs on TEN HD, sadly only about 200,000 of the 1,000,000 or so fans will see it on Aus TV. Most have already seen the series. The episode 720 Arctic briefly, "Kara (Laura Vandervoort) tells Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) he is destined to defeat the Traveler and offers to take him to the Fortress to learn how". Meanwhile in Vancouver Canada Season 8 is underway with production starting on 7 July 2008 and progressing to 3 April 2009.There are some changes for the eighth season. Kristen Kruek (Lana Lang) and Michael Rosenbaum (Alexander (Lex) Luthor) will become guest cast members, Alison Mac (Chloe Sullivan) and Erica Durance (Lois Lane) has signed on as has the series lead Tom Welling (Clark Kent) and Aaron Ashmore (Jimmy Olsen).

Two new baddies will be introduced

Doomsday
Real name: Davis Bloome, played by Sam Witner
He's in his mid-20s.
He works as a bartender at the hip new Metropolis lounge Ace of Clubs (get it?).
He plays down his smouldering good looks with a self-effacing wit and down-to-earth soulfulness. But he has long felt like an outsider (hence his nickname). And beneath his charismatic, easy-going demeanor lies a brooding sense of isolation and insecurity. When he begins to delve into the haunting mysteries of his true origins, a darker truth begins to emerge, one of blood and serial murders, one of survival and utter destruction — one in which he is forced to confront the true evil inside of him."

Tess Mercer played by Cassidy Freeman
Drop-dead gorgeous (duh)
Roughly 28 years old
She's determined, sexy, vengeful and has super-strength.
"While Lex is away, she is in control of his estate and rules it with aggression. She's had intellect and the confidence all her life, though it's obvious she's had some training from Lex as well. But as much as Lex has helped fortify her power, he is also her biggest weakness. She harbors an undying devotion to Lex, claiming he saved her life a few years ago. She carries out his wishes with coercion, force, seduction — anything to get what she wants. And no one can resist her beguiling ways. Even Clark Kent. She doesn't remember anything before the day she met Lex. Once she realizes her previous life is buried below the surface, she's desperate to dig it up."

And there's more over at The Happy Place

Stargate Atlantis S5 close to "that's a wrap"

From Stargate Atlantis executive producer and show runner Joe Mallozzi's blog, "In a little over a month from now, we’ll be wrapping our sets for yet another season, preparing for next year, and scattering to the four winds for some much-needed R&R.

Before that happens, of course, we have some episodes that need finishing.

I am anxiously awaiting a director’s cut of Remnants, Marty G. is directing his last day on Brain Storm (at the airport shooting the Learjet sequences), Infection has started shooting (infirmary scenes in Stage 6 to start the day, then a move over to the hive ship set in the FX stage), Carl is casting Identity, and Paul (damn I havent done one of those bio things for Paul (Mullie) yet!) has reached the fourth act of the still untitled Episode #20
